Any advice is warmly welcomed. Saw the UK TV programme this week and we are thinking of buying property in Croatia

If you haven't been to Croatia before you are in for a very pleasant surprise. Think about coming down for a long weekend to have a look around first. Trieste is easiest and cheapest. Ryanair fly in there and the airport car hire desks will rent cars to go over the border to Croatia. Be sure to rent in the airport. For some peculiar reason, the same companies' offices in town deny it is even possible to do cross border. We've all sorts of property only an hour from Trieste. If you need any help sorting out accomodation, it's an area we know well, so do ask. If we know when you are coming and you let us know what sort of thing you are interested in, we can arrange some viewings.

Also consider Easyjet to Ljubljana as the flight prices for that route are less than Ryanair to Trieste. Unfortunately we can not offer car rental ex Slovenia but we do have contract rates in Italy and Croatia. Peter is correct about the car rental offices not at the airport being unable to permit cars to be taken over the border, however there are ways around this if for any reason you want to fly into Venice or other Italian airport. Venice is handy for the Istrian coastal towns as the fast catamarans only take about 2.5 hours to cross the Adriatic and go to all the main resorts. Venice is served from several regional airports in the UK which could save a long drive to Stansted.
