I have just returned from Istria and I met someone who told me that it was not now necessary to have the Uporabna Dosvola in order to get the Tourist License to rent out a property in Croatia. Apparently he heard the law had been recently overturned. Has anyone else any information on this? Thanks.

I'd be surprised. You need an OIB for any contract. They are not difficult to get. There is a helpful lady who speaks some English in the building over the big Konsum in Porec who issues them on demand FOC while you wait.

Yes, I've got the OIB. But was just wondering how the law is changing once they are part of the EU and if the Uporabna Dosvola was necessary in order to get the tourist licence.
Thanks.

You need an OIB for any contract or official document mentioning your name, so you'd certainly need it for a tourist licence.
Incidentally, the Uporabna Dozvola is the usage certificate, applicable to anything. Whilst normally referred to in connection with somewhere to live, even new roundabouts need one !

Just returned from Porec where I heard that legalisation of property (and that includes having an 'Uporabna Dosvola' - useage certificate) has to be lodged before July 1st 2013. Properties that do not have the correct Building Permit or Uporabna Dosvola will be illegal and could be knocked down. Some owners I have spoken to are not aware of this, don't have the Uporabna Dosvola and have their property for sale with Porec agents who have not advised them of the deadline and that their property will be illegal. Do you know if anything can be done retrospectively to get the necessary paperwork after July? Obviously fines will have to be paid.
