We are often asked about reciprocity. <br> If a foreigner buys in their own name they have to apply for a declaration of reciprocity from the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the people at the Land Registry will allow their name to be entered into there. This still applies even when a couple are buying and one of them is Croatian; if either of the names going in to the Land Registry is foreign, it is necessary to go through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Provided that Croatians are allowed to buy in a foreign country, nationals of that country are allowed to buy on the same terms. Following exchanges of emails with the Ministry, we can confirm, for example, that British, Irish and Swedish people are allowed to buy quite freely, whereas Australians can only buy if they have permanent residence in Croatia. We will update this information for other nationalities as soon as we receive it from the Ministry.
