I thought it was worthwhile to remind people that unless they have permanent residence in Croatia, they need to register with the tourist office when they come out to Croatia and pay the tourist tax. Whilst the latter is nominal, just a few pence a day, the registration is important. If you need to call upon emergency services for anything, they will check your details on the computer and if you are not registered you may have difficulty obtaining services. When you register at a hotel, they do it for you, which is why they retain your passport overnight, just as they do elsewhere in Europe. If you are staying in private accomodation, whether your own or someone else's, you need to do it yourself. Owning a property does not mean that you are absolved from registering.
We understand that emigration control officers now ask outgoing passengers where they were staying and record this and we think this may lead to questions at some stage as to whether you have registered with the Tourist office and paid the tax.
If you are renting out, you should be categorised and registered for renting out with the local tourist authorities.

Some buyers are experiencing problems registering with the tourist authorities when they come out for the weekend, as the tourist office is already closed when they arrive, particularly during the winter and they leave before it reopens. If anyone is coming out to see us for the weekend they can pre-register with us and we will register them with the tourist office before it closes for the weekend and have their document ready when they arrive. Please ask us if you need this service.
