Hi there, I am a young veterinarian based in Cambridge, and foolishly (?) I bought a stare kuce near Vodnjan/Pula in Istria about a year and a half ago. I have taken time out from work now (a) to come and learn Croatian and (b) to try and redevelop this wreck of a property! If you are also based out here (either in May-mid june or in July) and renovating a house - I would be delighted to hear from you. Moral support and an exchange of ideas would be much appreciated ! Sve najbolje Paul

Did you manage to find a reasonably priced Rovinj-based accountants? We are in a similar situation and have been quoted a monthly fee of 100 EUROs which seems excessive.
Thanks for any recommendations.

Hi - I bought an old stone stable last October, in the village of Matohanci near Rovinj, and the renovation work started mid-July. I'm based in London but have a local architect as project manager and a local builder. They are giving me bi-weekly updates via phone and email, with fotos etc and I'll be out again in mid-Sept to review the finished work. Area is approx 50m2 and the build will take 6-8 weeks max. Do you plan to do the work y'self? I'll see if my guys continue to do a good job and let you know if you'd like some other contacts. I do know another architect based in Pula as the guys from Porec may think it's too far - they tend to stick very closely to their own area. Jules

We are renovating an old stone house in the northern part of Istria, near Buje. We have worked with a local architect/construction firm to do all the major work, but now need to work on floors and fixtures for bathrooms and kitchens. We would appreciate any advice on stores in the area to look for these materials. We can be contacted at john.jen@mac.com. Thanks!

Hi
You could try Spina, in Porec, in the industrial area behind the LaKop supermarket. They have a good selection of tiles. The builders merchants at Zbandaj should be good for the rest.

Re accountant in Rovinj, I use Sunny Day, phone no 052 815 046. and the charge is 1000 kuna a quarter plus tax.
She is very good, and she alos explains everything in English.
Hope this helps.
