If you are the owner of an Istrian property with an irrigation system, please read this.
We have had an exceptionally dry year with little rain. The water level in Lake Butoniga, the main Istrian reservoir, has dropped significantly and measures are being taken to reduce demand. There will be a two hour stoppage across Istria tomorrow.
Irrigation has been stopped. If you have an automatic irrigation system on your property you must arrange for it to be turned off. There are inspectors in the area looking for offenders and suspiciously green gardens will attract attention.
The penalties are high. On top of fines, they are talking of disconnecting and removing the meters, leaving offenders with no water supply and the need to reapply, with relevant fees, for a new water supply. In cases where the property is in a village already at capacity, reconnecting could take a long while, leaving a property effectively unusable.
If your property is managed, you will need to tell the manager to disconnect the irrigation system urgently.
