There is currently a sole promotion on in restaurants in Savudrija, Umag, Buje, Brtniglia and Novigrad. Around 20 restaurants are participating, all offering fixed price three course meals with wine. Each course is based on sole, with sole risottos, sole salads, sole with pasta, etc., followed by sole either grilled, fried or in cream and wine sauces, followed by a dessert and including wine.
At this time of year there are many food festivals in Istria. Last weekend there was a truffle festival in Buzet and a wild mushroom festival in Brtniglia. These offer wonderful opportunities to try some of the amazing range of inexpensive local produce that Istrians take for granted. If you enjoy fresh local produce that hasn't been designed for supermarkets and flown around the world, Istria is the place to come to.
At the end of December and into January, there will be another fishermans' festival in Tar, this time based on the Orada and Brancin that are plentiful then.
