International Living's 2007 survey lists Croatia as the 16th best country in the world for its quality of life.
For eleven months they check in which countries you could live cheaper, pay less tax, enjoy better weather, take advantage of an emerging market or start a new life. Then, every January, they consider them in the context of the world as a whole. This year, their survey covered 193 countries.
They examine nine categories: Cost of Living, Culture & Leisure, Economy, Environment, Freedom, Health, Infrastructure, Safety & Risk and Climate. They draw upon sources like government websites, the World Health Organisation and the Economist, to name just a few, and then cross check it with local correspondents.
Croatia came out 16th, well above countries like Canada (25th), our EU neighbour Slovenia(32nd) and the UK (38th) and jointly with Monaco, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Finland and Malta.

From the Croatian Times
Zagreb residents least happy with work environment
Croatian Times
Zagreb residents are least happy with their jobs and working environment, the new National Index of Happiness (NIS) shows.
The happiest Croatians – when it comes to their work, at least – can be found in Istria, Gorski Kotar and Primorje.
Residents of smaller settlements – those of up to 10,000 people – are most happy with their work environment.
Women are found to be less satisfied than men about their jobs and interpersonal relationships at work.
A fourth of those surveyed believe that they do not have enough job security, the daily Jutarnji List writes.
More Croatians than even European Union residents seem to be rather satisfied with interpersonal relationships at work.
