It is very easy. Get yourself a foreign account in a Croatian Bank (my preference is Privredna Banka). The account may be in Euro or any other currency you like. You can not have a Kuna account. Then transfer you money with international bank transfer and you may withdraw in Croatia in any currency you like - including Kuna.

I would also add that it is worth talking to a currency trader for the bank transfer. You can probably get a better rate than a high street bank and it will cost you nothing or very little to make the transfer. We have been using FX solutions very successfully for two years doing this. Try Vince Cannon at FX Solutions on +44 (0) 1689 601111 or email v.cannon@fxsolutions.co.uk. You can tell him you've been recommended by me and I'm sure you will find him helpful. We've had good service at this end from Erste Bank, but it will depend on where you are as to who has the best branch network locally. Erste are good for Istria.

There must be - but I do not know the area well. Maybe you could try to write them at: pbz365@pbz.hr Their homepage is: net.pbz.hr/The reason I like Privredna is that they are modern. Their internet bank works (for a company) and as a private account holder you can have a light version where you can follow your account balance.

I live in the UK and have a foreign currency account (any currencies other than Kunas, all in the same account( and a separate Kuna account. These are with Erste & Steiermarkische Bank. However, they tell me that they cannot provide either a debit or credit card to a non-Croatian resident? Has anyone overcome this latter problem - taking hundreds of notes to the shop when you buy furniture for your apartment can be inconvenient!

Hi Chris
I am with Zagrebacka Banka in Porec, and have a their debit card (visa) which draws money from my foreign currency account (Euros not Kunas). I furnished a complete property using this card and avoided carrying too much cash with me. I cannot understand why your bank will not do the same?

I've one with Erste but I'm a Croatian citizen. The rules may have been changed. Things are always changing here. I'll ask again.
