I'm after a large DIY store as near as possible to Korcula to buy kitchen and bathroom fittings and general furniture. One like the Pevec store would be good but the nearest one of them seems to be Zadar. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are some great carpenters in Croatia who would build kitchen units to fit your room. Most of those I have seen have been of really high quality. One guy I know near Dubrovnik even uses olive wood for some of his work. Real wood sure as hell beats mdf and chipboard! Just ask locally and someone will know a carpenter for the job.

I have shopped a lot in Metkovic where there are several stores - not big, but with a reasonable selection. Also Neum has good stores (and cheap), but it is the "wrong" side of the border and I only buy small things that do not attract attention at the border station. If you come via Peljesac and ferry to Ploce you should check a store on the way to Metkovic in Rogotin. On the left hand, just before the bridge over Neretva.
