We have just bought a one bed flat in Medulin and had decided to buy everything at Ikea and pay a removal firm to shift it over from UK. Fortunately we had already met a fantastic English couple who live in Pomer near Pula who suggested that we visit one or two shops that they had used before spending £2000 on removal costs! We managed with their help to buy everything that we need, it is being made at present, delivered the day after we arrive in June and put together the day after that by the store. Having read the posts on here we were sure that we could not get what we wanted in Pula but were pleasantly suprised. Have also bought a kitchen which hopefully will be installed before June. There are loads of supermarket/DIY type of stores in Pula, all on the ring road, we particularly liked Pevec which is a comet/B+Q/Homebase type of set up all under one roof, a real aladdins cave got some great balcony furniture and light fittings, somewhat confusing collection procedure if you buy a fridge etc but staff will lug it to your car for you. They has everything we needed in stock and ready to take away. It certainly helped to have a Croatian speaker with us but we probably would have been able to do all this on our own by sign language although it would have taken longer!

I quite like Pevec. I used their first Zagreb place and although it sometimes was difficult to find where they had hidden stuff, their prices were always the best. Their newer Zagreb place on the West side of the city is much better laid out. The Pula one, which has only been open since Christmas, is better still and I use it for all sorts, including office stuff. Good stocks of basic stuff and good prices although sometimes a job to grab someone to get it for you. They have a particularly good selection of electrical appliances.
